Plaza de Armas in Arequipa, Peru. When people talk about their trip to Arequipa, Peru they often mention how much they loved Plaza de Armas – the main plaza that is one of the grandest in South America – and we did too.
There are always folks wandering about, flocks of pigeons by the waterfountain to feed and many yummy restaurants and bars around its perimeter and within a block or two away.
Arequipa is where we spent a few days planning our adventure into the Colca Canyon, just three hours away by bus.
The video is a nice, slow walk-through around the plaza, showing you what it is like including video footage of the grand Catholic church ‘Basilica Cathedral of Arequipa’ that at the time had a small group of protesters out front with signs that read: “Justicia solo pedimos!” which translates to “We ask only justice” in English.
