We loved Sucre, Bolivia and spent over a month in the city; the awesome teen taking some drawing classes at the Cultural Center (alongside other expats) and private guitar lessons from a music professor who worked at one of the music schools for kids.
I loved the main farmers market, crazy fun to wander around in and very intimidating upon first visit.
After a week or so of living there got the hang of it and would wiz through picking up my fresh french bread rolls from one of the bread ladies, my chicken at the chicken counter, dog food way in back where they sold it in bulk… had the place scoped-out pretty well 🙂
The other place I loved was the Tarabuco Sunday Market in the town of Tarabuco, around two hours from Sucre by bus.
The ride is gorgeous – can’t say much about the public bus, smashed in between increasingly greater numbers of locals picked-up along the way. You drive through the green-dotted countryside, passing through small settlements here and there.
Tarabuco itself is small, the video below is a nice representation (if I do say so myself, it’s one of my better vids) of a part of the town showing a hostal, museum and restaurants plus much footage of the main square and all the action going on during this popular tourist activity.
It has been over two years since we have spent time in Bolivia, but sitting right across from me in our little trailer we are living in at the moment in the U.S., draped over the chair, is one of my prized travel possessions… the colorful bag I bought at the Tarabuco Market and use daily as a purse.
