As I was wandering the South American continent years back with the awesome teen then a preteen, we were always on the lookout for a great place to set roots for awhile, find a little apartment, make friends, have some fun.
Friends we made in Canoa, Ecuador said they loved Salta, Argentina so when we traveled through the area we stayed a few days.
Salta is a sweet, low-key, smallish city (population 200,000+) with many parks and outdoor spaces.
I wish we had had more time, but it wasn’t the time for a long-term stay so off to the Quebrada de Humahuaca and Bolivia we went.
The main square in Salta is Plaza 6 de Julio. It is an excellent place to sit and have lunch, with many restaurants offering daily specials. How about 12 large, chicken empanadas plus a liter of that Salta brew you see up at the top left corner of this page… for $6 USD?
Take a walk around this lovely square by watching the video below.
Just down the street from our hostal was this fruit and veggie stand… the gals had no problem being photographed, very cute 🙂
