Root Causes of Depression

That is EXACTLY what is needed, I recently said to a casual acquaintance.

Root Causes of Depression
I Firmly Believe This If You Are Willing to Continue to Search For Ways to be Well – Which Includes Ending Psychiatric Care if it is Making You Worse and Seeking Alternative Solutions.

The woman was an ex-nurse who had become wheelchair bound and debillited by psychiatry (hospitalizations, psychotropic medications) and was now on a mission to tell everyone she met that her supposed ‘mental illness’ was actually from severe gluten intolerance.

She had celiac disease. Not bipolar illness as she was told – of course, as it’s pretty much their answer to everything these days.

Celiac Disease-Induced Depression, No Bipolar Disorder

When I met her a month or so ago she had been walking for a year. She slowly recovered her mobility and mental wellness when she went on a completely gluten-free diet. An extreme case, for sure, but the moral of the story is that psychiatry missed the root cause of her mental sypmptoms and almost killed her.

To me, being made debilitated by prescription medications to the point of having to live in a wheelchair is a form of medical murder. I would be one to most likely commit suicide long before I ever reached that state of debilitation.

Note: Celiac disease is not common and is not the same as being possibly ‘gluten-intolerant’ or allergic to wheat. This article explains the difference in simple terms: What’s The Difference Between Celiac Disease, Gluten Intolerance and Wheat Allergy?

What Are Root Causes of Depression?

Root causes are simply the underlying biological mechanisms that are contributing to your illness states and expressed symptoms. You may feel depressed, anxious or abnormally hyper… but what is going on in the body that is making you feel that way? That is the question.

We know the Chemical Imbalance Theory did not prove anything and that psych meds are simply guessing game treatments used for decades to try and moderate distressing symptoms a sufferer relates to the physician.

But what is really going on? Are scientists finally learning what is actually happening in the body and then be able to treat root causes of depression and anxiety disorders?

The below is from an April, 2013 article from the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation:

“Serotonin may be treating the problem,” Dr. Picciotto says, “but acetylcholine disruption may be a primary cause of depression. If we can treat the root cause, perhaps we can get a better response from the patient.”

There is so much incredibly exciting reseach going on that is going to help many people – and maybe put quite a few psychiatrists out of business, if they refuse to move forward and admit many of their dearly held drugging methods are not medically warranted anymore.

Barbaric electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) – what the psychiatric community uses after their psych meds worsen a patient’s medical condition – will definitely be a thing of the past at some point. Maybe not in my lifetime… but eventually.

When I said to the woman who was sharing the story of her incredibly recovery, “That is EXACTLY what is needed…” what I was referring to was one of our ninja docs (also known as ‘psychiatrists who rock’) current focus on the ‘root causes of depression’.

The physician is Kelly Brogan, M.D. and I first learned about her when learning about the new ‘Gut as a Second Brain‘ research. Another example of incredibly exciting medical advances and scientific research that is leading to new treatments for those who suffer from depression and anxiety disorders.

Treatments beyond the current guessing game toxic psychotropic medications routine that leaves many physically debilitated or worse, dead from suicide after their condition was made worse.

The turning point in my being diagnosed Manic Depressive at age 19 and receiving years of medical and psychiatric treatments was being prescribed thyroid hormone. Thyroid issues are another ‘root cause of depression’ and mood imbalance.

I share my full story and 10 alternative treatments that helped me in my book: Bipolar 1 Disorder – How to Survive and Thrive.

Dr. Brogan has a freebie book on the basics of depression (including information on antidepressants that you will want to know) you can download from her website and a new book (that I will read when I can afford to buy it!) that focuses on healing from depression holistically – treating root causes – without the use of debilitating medications.

The book is: A Mind of Your Own. The Truth About Depression and How Women Can Heal Their Bodies to Reclaim Their Lives. More information and how to purchase here.

Check both out while you search for ways to heal if you suffer from a mood disorder. Empower yourself and end psychiatric care if it is causing you to worsen. There are many more options for healing available to you.
