Puerto Lopez, Ecuador travel photo memories. Puerto Lopez is a dusty, dirty town with some cool things to do during certain times of the year and beautiful beaches nearby.
The top tourist attraction is taking a boat tour during June – September to have an ‘out of this world’ Humpback whale watching experience, getting to see the magnificent creatures that weigh 79,000 pounds (36,000 kilograms) or more up close and personal.
Fearless souls can don scuba gear and pretend they are itty bitty (you sure will feel itty bitty!) fish swimming with the giants.
In addition to whale watching in winter there are year-round tours to Isla del Plata (“Poor Man’s Galapagos”) or Isla Salango (shorter but still fun), Los Frailes beach to discover and the sulphur-laden lagoon at Agua Blanca to enjoy a relaxing soak.
The fish market on the waterfront is fun to see, you can take a short stroll along the waterfront in the video below.
Puerto Lopez is a only an hour by bus from the surf hot spot MontaƱita
