Museo ethnologico in Chivay, Peru. Chivay, Peru is where you land when you bus from Arequipa to the Colca Canyon – an approximate 3 hour ride.
It is a main tourist town, small yet with many quaint attractions such as an indoor/outdoor farmers market (great place to eat for low-cost meal) and hot spring resort within walking distance.
At night there is karaoke in a bunch of the little dive bars.
A main tourist draw is the hot springs at La Calera – you can walk or take a tuk tuk to the springs around 15 minutes away.
There are a few different pools, both indoor and outdoor, a place to get something to eat and drink plus bathrooms with showers.
What I found really sweet though, was the little museum (no attendant, I just walked through) in the middle of the complex that houses ‘real life’ replicas to what life historically has been like in this area of Peru, along with artifacts and photographs from times past.
You can visit the museum too, with this video.
