When we arrived in Argentina in 2008 we set up house in a small Atlantic seaside community near the popular summer resort Mar del Plata.
Miramar is a sweet little town that swells in the summer (December to February) with tourists but remains tranquil and family-oriented the rest of the year.
If the awesome teen could choose where to live, he’d pick Miramar where he made many friends and quite possibly had a bit too much fun… don’t ask me about a lip ring at the age of 13 🙂
If you travel to Miramar you will be surprised by how many folks use bikes for transport, even elderly persons well into their 70’s. Owning a car in the country is outrageously expensive, even used older models are three to four times the cost of what you would pay in the U.S. As cars age, they gain value, not lose value in Argentina.
In addition to the bakeries, carnicerias (butcher shops in English), take-out shops with empanadas, quiche, and grilled meats sold by the kilo… the town has a few fruit and vegetable stands. Yummy to shop at, but also fun to photograph.
