We visited the popular beach town in Northern Peru – Mancora – twice. Once in 2009, then again in 2011 as we made our way back to Ecuador to visit the Galapagos Islands.
We landed off the bus the first time, fresh from Ecuador and ran into an American friend we had met in Canoa. Traveling around often you think you’ve said goodbye only to walk right into the same person months later in another country, another city or town.
I should have said ‘crazy friend’ – love you Adam from Bellingham, WA – who was working very hard (ahem…) as a bartender at one of the craziest party hostals in town – The Point. He invited us to come hang out and Mom got to have a little fun, while the awesome teen who was then only 11 years old lessons in how to make Mojitos – a crucial life skill.
If you travel around like we did – on the cheap by mainly bus transport and often times the cheapest form of even that… you will spend much time at little offices like the one inside the open doorway below, waiting patiently for your departure.
I think we spent about 3 hours there, taking turns watching the luggage while Tiger growled at anyone who dared to get within 10 feet of us 🙂
We traveled to Mancora from Montañita, Ecuador – a very common trip for the ‘surf & party’ version of backpackers. Ahem… again, and I think I’ve gotten a bit too old for this stuff.
🙂 Cheers, Molly
