This is one cool tourist attraction in Boulder City near Las Vegas (30 minutes or so away via highway) and very popular; with approximately 7 million visitors per year.
Completed in 1935 it is a National Historic Landmark (1985) and one of America’s ‘Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders’ (1994).
It is a concrete arch dam built in the Black Canyon that is on the border of Nevada and Arizona. It was built to provide hydroelectric power and water for the developing communities of Los Angeles (CA), Las Vegas (NV) and Phoenix (AZ).
It was built on the raging, wild Colorado River and created the Lake Mead Reservoir – another popular tourist attraction. Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
